Introduced in 1965 as the successor to the DB5, the DB6 was designed to address several shortcomings of its predecessor.
Aston Martin engineers sought to improve interior space, high-speed stability, and everyday usability without sacrificing the performance and beauty that had become synonymous with the DB series.
One of the most noticeable changes was the distinctive Kamm tail at the rear, which reduced aerodynamic lift and improved stability at speed. The roofline was raised slightly, and the wheelbase was lengthened, creating more headroom and genuinely usable rear seating.
From a design perspective its bodywork, built using Touring of Milan’s Superleggera construction principles and combined lightweight engineering but kept the familiar stance of the previous two models.
Certainly the last owner found the idea of owning a DB6 totally agreeable as he purchased this DB6 some 38 years ago. His first requirement was that it had to be a genuine low mileage car that he could improve over time.....this car certainly meet this criteria as it had covered just a genuine 65,435 miles in the hands of only 2 previous keepers.
The original factory build sheet states it was built and supplied by HR Owen & delivered to a Mr. A. Austin of Wembley Park, Middlesex on 1st December 1966. Importantly we can confirm it remains a matching numbers car and apart from a colour change from Mink to the more attractive Cambridge blue everything remains as when built.
Happily the owner created a spread sheet detailing all of his expenditure since he purchased in 1988 which clearly is an impressive document and a stark reminder even some 37 years ago it was an expensive exercise.
Within the first 6 years the car was treated to the following: a full body restoration and repainted as it is today in Cambridge Blue.
RS Williams rebuilt the engine to 4.2 Litre with Cosworth pistons plus numerous other engineering works.
A complete new leather interior and carpets by DS Auto Upholstery.
Following these major works, Trinity, Chicane and other well AM specialists have all contributed to its ongoing maintenance during the course of its accrued mileage today stands at just 71,535.
Recently arriving at Vantage Engineering it underwent full pre-sale inspection which revealed relatively little in terms of any major works other than the clutch master cylinder was faulty, now replaced, a weeping radiator, so original was refurbished along with a new core fitted plus a new water pump was also deemed prudent as noisy.....some other age related repairs were also attended to amounting to £10,700, thus now freshly and properly prepared and offered for sale for the first time in nearly 4 decades.
This cars wonderful condition today is testament to the original and thorough restoration and of course the continued diligent care of it owner over the last 38 years.
